Noreen Harpley was a nurse at Seastrand in Norfolf, and lived a very simple life which consisted of duty and yet more duty. She was all alone in the world except for her nephew Dennis, aged twelve, who lived with his maternal grandmother.
But Noreen was in love with Doctor Paul Winston, who was widowed and had a son, Alan. Doctor Winston also seemed to lead a very limited life which revolved around his motherless son. Noreen spent most of her time on duty trying to catch a glimpse of him and all of her time off duty thinking about him and wishing that he was aware of her existence. But the age of miracles seemed past, until fate took a hand.
